Solution-Focused Glass Coating Producers Confirm Compatibility

Tests confirm new compatibility of high-performance glass coatings. DIAMOND-FUSION® can be applied onto OPACI-COAT-300® coated glass, offering a multi-beneficial solution for the AEC industry.

ICD High Performance Coatings + Chemistries recently conducted internal tests upon hand-applied and FuseCube™ applied Diamon-Fusion® protective glass coating over the top of OPACI-COAT-300® coated glass. ICD used modified versions of ASTM C794 and C1087 – Standard Test Method for Adhesion-in-Peel of Elastomeric Joint Sealants to determine peak force and cohesive failure of the sealant, and Standard Test Method for Determining Compatibility of Liquid-Applied Sealants with Accessories Used in Structural Glazing Systems to determine changes in color or adhesion.

“We continue to receive new requests for first surface glass protection of our OPACI-COAT-300® coated glass products via ICD’s architectural education program. Interest ranges from interior applications like wall-cladding in healthcare facilities and offices, and on all-glass façades where not only vision may require first surface protection, but the spandrel too. All inquiries were related to glass cleanability, therefore it made sense to conduct compatibility testing with Diamon-Fusion® to determine the possibility of a combined solution between both products.” — Casey Anderson, ICD Marketing Manager

Test results* display compatibility and now both ICD and Diamon-Fusion® encourage protective coating considerations for all OPACI-COAT-300® back-painted glass applications.

“Glass continues to evolve in technology and application usage. So, the opportunity to work with ICD and combine two great glass coating technologies, is extremely exciting. The positive results between Diamon-Fusion® and OPACI-COAT-300® creates new opportunities for fabricators and architects looking to design their glass, while keeping it cleaner for longer.”

About Diamon-Fusion®

Diamon-Fusion® is an ultra-thin, UV resistant, protective glass coating that transforms ordinary glass into a high-performing, water-repellent surface that helps prevent staining. Similar to how a non-stick cooking pan works, surfaces treated with Diamon-Fusion® become easier to clean and require less maintenance. The invisible barrier created in the Diamon-Fusion® process is also extremely smooth, which helps prevent environmental pollutants, mineral contaminants, and soap scum from damaging the glass.

About OPACI-COAT-300®

OPACI-COAT-300® is a sustainable water-based silicone glass coating that contains ultra-low VOCs in a liquid state, and zero when cured. It has a virtually unlimited color palette, and a tight color tolerance, meaning it can be color-matched to an imperceptible level to color chips from fan decks, or other provided materials, and the color repeatability is reliable from sample to installation. Also, because of its elastomeric nature, OPACI-COAT-300® can offer fallout resistance when specified, and best of all, it doesn’t weaken the glass substrate, so you can design at full-glass load capacity. It’s utilized globally in prominent projects featuring façade spandrel in high-rise curtainwall and window wall systems, mixed-use and retail podiums, interior wall-cladding for statement spaces, elevator lobbies, hallways, backsplashes, countertops, shower surrounds and more.

* The tests conducted were not solicited for the purpose of providing performance data or a statement of fitness for any specific project or use.
